STUDY BASED ON STS DATABASE EARNS NATIONAL MEDIA COVERAGE A study by STS member Fred Edwards, MD, published in The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, has received nationwide media coverage. Dr. Edwards used the STS National Database to study outcomes from by-pass surgery for men versus women and found that women undergoing CABG have a significantly higher mortality rate than men.
The coverage pointed out the importance of this study in identifying the need for further research into women's health in this area. Reports also called the study "massive" based on the fact that the STS Database offers hundreds of thousands of cases for study.
