With a stepped-up presence in Congress, the Society is witnessing unique opportunities to dramatically impact health care delivery in the United States. Over the past two years, the Society has greatly broadened its activities and has been working with public affairs consultants and patient advocacy groups in an attempt to better inform the public about the accomplishments of thoracic surgeons, as well as to provide information about new procedures and technical developments in the field. Dr. Timothy J. Gardner, Dr. Victor F. Trastek and The Societys public affairs consultants will offer insight and perspectives on these efforts required to bring about significant change in health outcomes and patient care.
