Surgeon Membership

For all surgeons certified in the field of thoracic surgery or who have achieved appropriate recognition of their achievements in thoracic surgery.   

Surgeons awaiting certification are not yet eligible for Surgeon Membership. As you await certification, you are welcome to apply for Resident/Fellow Membership or continue your current Resident/Fellow Membership until you are fully certified.


Resident/Fellow Membership

For cardiothoracic surgery residents, trainees, fellows, and general surgery residents. Surgeons finished with training and awaiting certification in cardiothoracic surgery are welcome to apply.


Medical Student Membership

For medical students.


Associate Membership for Physicians

For physicians who are not eligible for Surgeon Membership and who support and work directly with cardiothoracic surgeons.


Associate Membership for Non-Physicians

For individuals with an interest in cardiothoracic surgery who are not eligible for other membership categories. This includes research scientists, physician assistants, perfusionists, nurses, nurse practitioners, practice administrators, data managers, and other health care professionals.


Senior Membership

Any Surgeon Member, on January 1 after reaching the age of 70 years, automatically becomes a Senior Member. In addition, any Surgeon Member 61 years or older, upon the submission of a declaration of retirement from employment in the field of medicine, will be considered for Early Senior Membership by the Board.

Honorary Membership

This category is for distinguished persons who have achieved prominence in the field of cardiothoracic surgery and who have contributed to its advancement.
