Dr. Frederick L. Grover Presented With Outstanding Achievement Award
STS Past President and current Council on Quality, Research, and Patient Safety Chair Frederick L. Grover, MD was presented with the American Heart Association’s Council on Quality of Care and Outcomes Research Recognition of Outstanding Achievement Award on May 9.
Dr. Grover received the award for his significant long-term contributions to outcomes research and the improvement of cardiovascular care. The award presentation was part of the AHA’s Quality of Care and Outcomes Research in Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke 2012 Scientific Sessions meeting held in Atlanta.
Dr. Robert A. Guyton to Give Gibbon Lecture at ACS Clinical Congress
STS Past President Robert A. Guyton, MD has been selected to present the prestigious John H. Gibbon, Jr. Lecture at the upcoming American College of Surgeons Clinical Congress on Oct. 1 in Chicago. His lecture is titled, “Critical Aortic Stenosis: Who Now is Inoperable?”
John H. Gibbon, Jr., MD is widely recognized for his pioneering efforts in surgery and the invention of the heart-lung bypass machine in 1937. The first Gibbon Lecture was presented in 1971 by Michael E. DeBakey, MD. The ACS Advisory Council for Cardiothoracic Surgery makes nominations for this lecture and presents them to the ACS Board of Regents, who this year extended an invitation to Dr. Guyton.
