Patient Safety Symposium

STS University Patient Safety Symposium
Wednesday, January 30, 2008
8 am - 12:30 pm

STS is pleased to report that once again, it has now secured commitments from malpractice/professional liability insurance carriers who will provide a premium reduction for the next coverage year to those cardiothoracic surgeons who they insure and who attend the STS Patient Safety Symposium. Click Insurance Provider Information at the right to see if your malpractice/professional liability insurance provider is participating. (The list will be updated as final commitments are received from additional companies) To register for the Patient Safety Symposium click here.

This outstanding educational program has been developed in collaboration with LifeWings, Inc., a company that has adapted aviation industry safety lessons to the health care field, and to surgery in particular. It will include modules (different from the 2007 program) in aviation-based safety programs, such as effective team decision making, debriefing (performance feedback), conflict management, and implementing hardwired safety tools, yet will be surgically oriented to specifically address those behaviors necessary to maximize safe surgery. Surgeons from across the country will come together during this symposium to discuss the initiatives and techniques they use to improve outcomes with their patients.

Additional information can be obtained by contacting Linda S. Breen, STS Senior Manager, Quality & Patient Safety at lbreen@sts.org.

When making travel arrangements to attend the STS 44th Annual Meeting, remember to include the new STS Patient Safety Symposium in your itinerary.
