To help graduating residents as they begin their careers in cardiothoracic surgery, The Society of Thoracic Surgeons has launched Career Connections, a program developed to help simplify the job search process.
Career Connections was developed through the STS Task Force on Employment Opportunities for Graduating Residents, under the auspices of the Workforce on Graduate Medical Education and Thoracic Surgery Resident Issues, as a way to help the future of the specialty.
Through Career Connections, basic information about experience and skills, along with curriculum vitae, is collected from job-seeking residents and fellows. Corresponding information is also solicited from prospective employers. This information is then entered into a database and compared, with the goal of matching residents' skills to practice needs and facilitating connections. When comparisons align residents' interests and preferences with open positions, STS will forward residents' CVs to prospective employers for consideration.
To begin the process, interested residents and employers need to complete the appropriate questionnaire. Employers will be e-mailed the CVs of residents that appear to best fit their needs. It is then the decision of each employer to select the residents they wish to speak with personally. To complete a questionnaire, please click on the appropriate link below:

Please note: Career Connections is open only to graduating residents and fellows. STS regrets that staff cannot report where resumes have been sent, nor follow-up with prospective employers to determine the disposition of an individual resume or status of open positions. STS cannot vouch for or be held responsible for the accuracy of information provided by residents or prospective employers. Career Connections is provided at no charge as a service to STS members and the cardiothoracic surgery community.
