  • Submit your anesthesiology data to the Congenital Heart Surgery Database

    The 2010 Fall harvest of the Congenital Heart Surgery Database will be the first opportunity for participants to submit their anesthesiology data.

    Please contact Gerry Tarafa, Operations Manager, STS National Database, at gtarafa@sts.org to obtain a 2010 Participation Agreement and Business Associate Contract and Data Use Agreement.  Please note, the 2010 Agreements are required to submit anesthesiology data.

  • US Maps of STS National Database Participants (as of 8.23.2010)

    STS has created maps of the US showing the number of STS National Database participants per state:

  • The 2010 STS National Database Harvest Schedule has been released

  • The Congenital Heart Surgery Database Data Specifications have been released

    The STS Congenital Heart Surgery Database has updated its data specifications to include a cardiac anesthesia component.

    This Congenital Cardiac Anesthesia component is effective January 1, 2010.


    The Data Collection Forms (DCF) are effective 9.16.2009
    Data specifications for v3.0 are effective 9.4.2009
  • The General Thoracic Surgery Database is now open to general surgeons

    STS Board of Directors has expanded eligibility for participation in the General Thoracic Surgery Database to include non-cardiothoracic surgeons (general surgeons).   By including general surgeons, the STS General Thoracic Surgery Database will be more representative of the practice of general thoracic surgery.

  • If any general surgeons at your site perform procedures currently being submitted to the STS General Thoracic Surgery Database, please take a moment to update your contact information on file at STS.

    Using the Participant Contact Form and the General Thoracic Surgery Database Schedule A - Surgeon Signature Form below, please fax the contact information for your general surgeons to:

  • Please remember, all data submitted to the STS National Database, must have the surgeon’s signature on file at STS.

  • Adult Cardiac Surgery Database Clinical Data Specialist Map REVISED!

    The map of the US identifying Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI) Clinical Data Specialists (CDS) for the Adult Cardiac Surgery Database has changed!  Due to the growth in the Adult Cardiac Surgery Database, DCRI has added a third CDS. 

  • Your CDS is a valuable resource for the STS National Database.  Each CDS will assist you to:

    •          answer questions pertaining to the harvest timelines
    •          monitor data specification questions
    •          resolve data transmission problems
    •          clarify data quality report concerns
    •          verify receipt of data submissions
    •          interpret national report matters
    •          update your contact information

    The three CDS’s for the Adult Cardiac Surgery Database are:  Carol Elliot, Carolyn Lumpkins, and Haywood Allen.  Carol Elliott will also assist Leigh Ann Jones as Backup CDS in the General Thoracic Surgery Database and Congenital Heart Surgery Database.

  • Associate Member category is open to Data Managers

    STS has expanded its Associate Member category to include scientists at the doctorate level conducing research in the field of thoracic surgery, physician assistants, perfusionists, nurses, nurse practitioners, practice administrators, data managers, and other non-physician allied health care professionals who support and work directly with thoracic surgeons.

    The STS Membership and Associate Membership applications are now online.
