New Data Specifications Released for the Adult Cardiac Surgery Database
STS has released new data and software specifications for the Adult Cardiac Surgery Database, version 2.61.
Version 2.61 has expanded to 384 fields. Major changes to the data specifications include:
Inclusion of unique patient identifiers
Addition of Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI) fields
Resource Utilization Code (RUC) fields
Upgraded Valve Manufacturer key
Mapped fields with the ACC

The mandatory start date of the 2.61 specifications will be January 1, 2008.
All software vendors for the Adult Cardiac Surgery Database will be undergoing certification for the new specifications. Once the certification and validation process has been completed, vendors will begin installation of version 2.61 at all their contracted sites. All participating sites must begin using 2.61 data specifications and software on January 1, 2008 or earlier.
All sites must use version 2.61 for all surgeries that occur on January 1, 2008 and forward.

Associate Member category is open to Data Managers
STS has expanded its Associate Member category to include scientists at the doctorate level conducing research in the field of thoracic surgery, physician assistants, perfusionists, nurses, nurse practitioners, practice administrators, data managers, and other non-physician allied health care professionals who support and work directly with thoracic surgeons.
