2019 Workshop on Robotic Thoracic Surgery

Event dates
Atlanta, GA

Course Description

The STS Workshop on Robotic Thoracic Surgery is designed to provide surgeons and their team members with a detailed overview of launching a general thoracic robotic surgery program within a hospital setting. Featuring didactic lectures, case demonstrations, and 6 hours of hands-on sessions at a state-of-the-art training facility, this 3-day continuing education activity will help provide the knowledge and expertise needed to develop treatment plans and perform pulmonary, mediastinal, and esophageal operations with the aid of a robot. Led by experts in the field, additional topics will address necessary and recommended program prerequisites, individual and team skills, supplies and equipment, training, administrative elements, and team requirements.

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Outline the steps and finances required to develop a general thoracic robotic surgery program within a hospital setting
  • Coordinate surgical plans for robotic pulmonary, mediastinal, and esophageal procedures from beginning to end
  • Describe the multidisciplinary components of building a general thoracic robotics program that includes hospital administration and health care team personnel
  • Identify the ideal prerequisites for surgeon selection and the hospital/program selection for starting and sustaining a robotic general thoracic surgery program
