The 2021 STS/EACTS Latin America Cardiovascular Surgery Symposium features the latest research, innovations, techniques, and therapies that are driving improved care and patient outcomes. Attendees will connect with experts from around the globe and experience educational content in the form of “How I Do It” video sessions. The world-class, international faculty will share late-breaking findings in a number of clinical areas, as well as the latest surgical techniques related to mitral valve repair, aortic valve repair and root replacement, atrial fibrillation, and tricuspid valve repair.
The program was presented in English, with simultaneous translation in Spanish.
The symposium took place on Friday, December 3.

Learning Objectives
At the end of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Articulate the latest advances in robotic mitral valve repair
- Demonstrate minimally invasive mitral valve repair using annuloplasty rings
- Discuss transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) as an alternative to mitral valve surgery
- Demonstrate the latest techniques in bicuspid aortic valve repair with ring, as well as minimally invasive valve-sparing aortic root replacement
- Discuss the newest approaches in the treatment of bicuspid aortic valve diseases, including transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and sutureless techniques
- Identify the latest technologies for tricuspid valve repair, including transcatheter approaches
Certificates of participation will be available, but no continuing medical education credit will be offered.
Target Audience
The symposium is designed for all members of the cardiac surgical team, including cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiovascular surgeons, cardiologists, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, physician assistants, nurses, trainees, and other health care professionals interested in the topic.
