Course Description

The 2019 STS TEVAR Symposium will provide an in-depth and comprehensive overview of newly expanded indications for thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR).

This Thursday/Friday symposium will feature a strong emphasis on case-based presentations. Each case will be presented in an open forum with a 5-minute presentation, 5-minute table discussion, and a 20-minute room discussion. Session topics include thoracic aortic dissection (hyperacute, acute, subacute, and chronic), ascending dissection, hybrid and branched device arch repair, and distal elephant trunk repair. 

Learning Objectives

After participating in this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Formulate a plan to develop an acute aortic treatment center at their facility;
  • Identify the diagnostic protocols necessary for preoperative treatment of complex thoracic aortic diseases;
  • Describe a treatment plan for patients with thoracic aortic aneurysms, dissection and other thoracic aortic diseases; and
  • Develop standardized follow-up protocols for evaluating patients after initial diagnosis and treatment of complex thoracic aortic diseases.


This course is targeted toward surgeons, cardiologists, and other health care professionals focused on the treatment of patients with thoracic aortic diseases.
