Medical Student Membership is for medical students anywhere in the world. Applications for Medical Student Membership are reviewed and approved year-round. To be eligible for Medical Student Membership, applicants must be a medical student enrolled in an appropriately accredited or otherwise recognized medical school.
What You Need to Complete Your Application
You’ll need to complete your application in one sitting, so have the following ready before you start your application:
- Current CV in English
- Name and email address of your program director, program faculty, or STS member to verify via email your appropriateness for membership
- Credit or debit card to process application fees and payments; payment will be processed upon submission
Medical Student Members are expected to upgrade to Resident/Fellow Membership within 1 year of completing medical school, if they are placed in a general surgery or cardiothoracic surgery residency. If a Medical Student Member does not plan to continue on the cardiothoracic track after completing medical school, they are welcome to apply for Associate Physician membership.
Membership Dues
Annual dues are only $25 for Medical Student Membership.
STS membership dues paid at the time of application are for the current calendar year. The STS membership year runs from January—December with dues renewable by December 31 every year.
Subscription to The Annals
Medical School Members receive a digital subscription to The Annals of Thoracic Surgery as a benefit of membership.
