Receive Free Registration for the STS 55th Annual Meeting
Make plans to join STS in San Diego for the Society’s 55th Annual Meeting, January 27-29, 2019. Experience thought-provoking lectures from renowned faculty and guests, countless networking opportunities, exciting hands-on learning, and a session on transitioning from residency to practice. Also, be sure to attend Tech-Con 2019 (Saturday, January 26) for the chance to learn about new devices and procedures that have yet to be FDA-approved but could be available within 1-3 years. View the Registration & Housing brochure and register today. Registration for both events is FREE for STS Candidate and Pre-Candidate Members.

Practice CT Surgery Procedures During STS University
The popular hands-on STS University courses will be offered on Sunday morning during the Annual Meeting. These sessions provide exposure to a variety of techniques with intimate faculty instruction, giving you ample opportunity to ask questions and receive immediate feedback. New courses for 2019 include robotic lobectomy, video-assisted sleeve lobectomy, and percutaneous transseptal access for transcatheter mitral valve repair/replacement. Residents are highly encouraged to attend Session I (8:00 a.m. – 9:45 a.m.) so that the rest of the morning remains free for special resident events, including the Residents Symposium (10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.) and Residents Luncheon (12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.). Select your STS U course when you’re registering for the Annual Meeting. Courses do fill up, so make sure you get your first choice! Each STS U course requires a $175 fee.

Submissions Open for 2019 WTS Scholarship
Female medical students and residents training in an accredited cardiothoracic or general surgery program are encouraged to apply for the 2019 Women in Thoracic Surgery Scholarship Program. In addition, female postdoctoral candidates in a research or other gap year who have graduated medical school and are committed to cardiothoracic surgery are eligible to apply. The scholarships will cover hotel accommodations and up to $500 in related travel expenses for the STS 55th Annual Meeting. Additionally, scholarship winners will be paired with a WTS mentor—an established, practicing woman thoracic surgeon—who can share invaluable insights about career paths and work-life balance while coaching scholars through the meeting and facilitating introductions. Apply today; the application deadline is Friday, October 26.

STS Blog Provides Career Guidance
In an effort to help early career cardiothoracic surgeons succeed in the field, members of the STS Workforce on Career Development have authored several blog posts offering practical career advice. Topics include balancing clinical, academic, and administrative responsibilities, building your digital presence as a surgeon, and finding a niche. If you have topics that you would like addressed, contact Scott Bradbury.
