Data Managers Receive Free Registration to AQO 2021

This past Friday, the Society sent an email to all ACSD contacts regarding delays and challenges related to the phased rollout of the next-generation STS National Database. As a courtesy in recognition of these challenges, STS is offering free registration to all STS National Database data managers for the upcoming Advances in Quality & Outcomes (AQO) Meeting, which will be held virtually October 12-15. Free registration will help ensure that data managers attend the educational sessions and have a solid understanding of the dashboards and tools developed for quality improvement initiatives.

ACSD Harvest 2 Closes May 28

The next ACSD Harvest, which will include Operational Reports data through March 31, 2021, is set to close May 28. Be sure to have all data entered for that period in order for them to be included in the harvest. Meanwhile, previously analyzed harvest results are available in the “Operational Reports” section of the Database platform.

Read 2021 ACSD Update in The Annals

Newly published in The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, “STS Adult Cardiac Surgery Database: 2021 Update on Outcomes, Quality, and Research” delivers a state of the union—and highlights future endeavors—for the ACSD. The report, the sixth in a series of annual reports that detail updated volumes, outcomes, registry-related developments, quality improvement initiatives, and research summaries, outlines recent enhancements that have added to the Database’s functionality, ease of use, and value to stakeholders.

Test Drive the New Longitudinal Outcomes Dashboard

STS has launched a powerful, first-of-its-kind tool for ACSD participants—the Longitudinal Outcomes Dashboard. With the Dashboard, participants now can explore their observed, expected, and risk-adjusted rates for all major morbidity and mortality outcomes. Users can select the specific type of cardiac procedure, define the data aggregation timeframe—calendar year, quarter, or month—and display, manipulate, and synthesize data in ways that have never been available before. Watch a demo, which includes a Q&A.

Help Demystify Aortic Valve Disease for Patients

The STS patient information website, ctsurgerypatients.org, offers animations, videos, and easy-to-understand language to explain various cardiothoracic conditions and procedures. The Aortic Valve Disease page provides comprehensive information about the types of aortic valve disease, causes and symptoms to watch out for, surgical treatment options, and what to expect during recovery. If you interact with patients at your institution, make sure to share this important resource—handouts are available for download in both English and Spanish. Contact Jennifer Bagley at jbagley@sts.org with feedback or questions about the patient website.
