Important Data Manager Survey
The Society is seeking data manager input on how often data are submitted, timing of data abstraction, how analysis reports are used, and more details on your organization’s participation in the STS National Database. The results of this annual survey will assist STS in developing resources for data managers, as well as understanding how STS National Database data are being used to improve quality of care. If you are a data manager, please take 10 minutes to complete this important survey. Note: If you also abstract for another Database component, you can complete the survey based on the component that is most time consuming or each Database component for which you abstract. Survey results will be presented at Advances in Quality & Outcomes (AQO): A Data Managers Meeting, which will be held September 26-28 in Hollywood, California.
AQO Abstract Submission Deadline Approaches
Next Tuesday, May 29, is the deadline to submit abstracts for AQO. This conference is the perfect forum to share valuable research and important clinical findings with hundreds of peers. Reminder: All authors listed on the abstract are required to fill out a disclosure form before your abstract will be considered. Registration and housing for AQO will open this summer.
Purchase Access to AQO Online
If you missed the 2017 AQO conference, you can still experience the exceptional meeting content through AQO Online. Learn about new aorta data collection elements, changes in version 2.9 of the ACSD, anesthesia abstraction tips, and more. Purchase access to just the ACSD sessions or a complete set, which includes all Database components. Those who attended AQO 2017 receive free access to the online product(s) that correspond to the session(s) for which they were registered; log in with the credentials that were used to register for the meeting. No continuing education credit will be given for viewing AQO Online.
Period 2 Data Submission Closing Soon
Data submission for period 2 will close tomorrow, May 25, and the last day to opt out is Monday, May 28. Please note that release dates for Data Analysis Reports will be adjusted for the remainder of the year. The Society will keep you informed as best as possible, but for the most up-to-date information, check the harvest schedule.
New Participant Contact Form Available
STS has created a new web-based Participant Contact Form for you to submit important updates. This webform replaces the PDF form that was used previously. Use the form to add or remove contacts (including participating surgeons), change your software vendor, or update your hospital name and NPI number. If you have questions, contact Derek Steck.
Avoid Payment Cut—Submit Data to CMS through STS
The STS National Database has been designated as a Qualified Clinical Data Registry for the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System, and cardiothoracic surgeons participating in the ACSD are eligible to reap the benefits. Surgeons who consent to have STS submit data on 14 Quality measures to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services on their behalf will avoid an automatic 5% negative payment adjustment in 2020. This service is FREE for STS members; non-members will each be assessed a $500 fee. Even surgeons whose hospitals are already reporting for them may benefit from reporting via the Database, as CMS will count the highest-scoring measures. Submit a consent form by October 31, 2018, to participate. A new consent form must be submitted every year. If you have questions about participating in MIPS, contact Derek Steck.
