STS National Database News: CHSD Edition, July/August 2019

July/August 2019

Update on the Next Generation STS National Database
Don’t miss this year’s AQO Meeting. The Society's new data warehouse, IQVIA, will demonstrate the cloud-based, interactive dashboards, the registry platform uploader, the new Data Quality Report format, and other innovative technology solutions that will be included in the early 2020 launch. This will be a great opportunity to provide feedback and ideas! See below for information on the meeting program and registration.

Data Managers Survey Deadline Extended
The Society is seeking data manager input on how often data are submitted, timing of data abstraction, how analysis reports are used, and more details on your organization’s participation in the STS National Database. The results of this annual survey will assist STS in developing resources for data managers, as well as understanding how STS National Database data are being used to improve quality of care. If you are a data manager and haven’t already done so, please take 5 minutes to complete this survey by Monday, August 26

Data Collection Updates Coming Soon
The latest training manual (v3.41), which also serves as the data dictionary, will be published on the CHSD Data Collection page next week along with the FAQs. It contains important information to help with data abstraction. (Note: The updates are shown as bookmarks and are easily seen using Internet Explorer. If you prefer to use Google Chrome or another browser, you may have to download the PDF and open the bookmarks manually in Adobe Acrobat.) In addition, a resource document on handling duplicate fields on the Data Collection Form is now available.

Update Your Site Info
Make sure to update your site’s contact information (including participating surgeons and anesthesiologists) via the web-based Participant Contact Form. To add, update, or deactivate a contact, please complete the “Contacts and Role Information Section.” When adding surgeons, please remember to attach a signed Schedule A. When adding anesthesiologists, please remember to attach a signed Schedule B. If you have any questions, contact pcf@sts.org

Learn More about Patent Ductus Arteriosus
The Society’s patient website, ctsurgerypatients.org, provides easily understandable information on cardiothoracic diseases and how they are treated using text, videos, graphics, and animations. The Patent Ductus Arteriosus page provides information regarding causes, diagnosis, treatment options, and recovery. If you interact with patients at your institution, make sure to share this important resource—handouts are available for download in both English and Spanish. Contact Jennifer Bagley at jbagley@sts.org with feedback or questions about the patient website.
