AQO Wrap Up and Last Chance to Claim CE
The 2020 Advances in Quality & Outcomes (AQO): A Data Managers Meeting was a great success! With approximately 850 attendees, the meeting saw its highest participation in its 23-year history. Thank you to all of the presenters, attendees, and supporters who took part in this virtual meeting. Live-session archive recordings are available for viewing on the virtual platform by meeting registrants. You also can check out the e-posters, including the one that earned the Dorothy Latham Poster Award: “Structured Reporting to Capture Data for the Society of Thoracic Surgeons National Database: A Quality Improvement Project,” by Heather Houston, MS, RN, and colleagues from UC Davis Health.
The deadline to evaluate AQO sessions and claim CE credits is December 31. To receive CE credit, you must watch all on-demand and live content for the days that you attended, then evaluate all of the presentations. You must complete the evaluation at one time. Your feedback is crucial as the Society strives to make this meeting as informative and relevant as possible.
Experience AQO Online
If you missed AQO this year, access to the digital archive is now available for purchase. The archive includes all content—interactive live and on-demand sessions, plus e-posters. Sessions offer the latest information about all four components of the STS National Database, including version upgrades and new features. In addition, the case-based learning format will help participants improve data collection and advance their registry coding skills. Buyers will have access until October 12, 2021.
Public Reporting Deadline Approaches
Consent forms for new/revised enrollments in the next round of STS Public Reporting are due Tuesday, December 1. GTSD participants can publicly report their overall scores and star ratings for lobectomy for lung cancer and esophagectomy procedures. GTSD public reporting is updated once per year. To enroll, complete the consent form and fax it to 312-202-5867 or email it to Sydney Clinton at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you already participate in public reporting, you do not need to submit a new form unless you are making changes.
Participation Fee Update
Invoices for 2021 Database participation will be mailed by mid-December. Participation payment must be received or your participation status will change to “inactive.” If this happens, your site will lose the ability to access STS standard reports, participate in future data harvests, and experience the next generation STS National Database. If you would like to request a digital copy, email email@example.com.

Mentorship Program Sign Up
The STS National Database mentorship program pairs experienced data managers with those who are seeking advice related to data abstraction. After filling out questionnaires, potential mentors and mentees will be matched based on Database type, experience in specific areas, and other factors. To apply as either a mentor or mentee, please complete the appropriate form. You will be notified once you have been matched. If you have questions about the program, contact Adie Dolan at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease Information Available for Patients
The STS patient website, ctsurgerypatients.org, offers immediate and easy access to expert, multimedia content on cardiothoracic diseases and operations. The Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease page includes detailed information on causes and symptoms, diagnosis and treatment options, as well as what to expect after surgery. If you interact with patients at your institution, make sure to share this important resource—handouts are available for download in both English and Spanish. Contact Jennifer Bagley at email@example.com with feedback or questions about the patient website.
