Lillehei Lecture at STS 2020

2020 STS Annual Meeting Lillehei Lecture
Bumper Car Innovation of Heart Pumps and Mechanical Lungs

The STS Lillehei Lecture was established in 2009 through a generous gift from the Lillehei Family Charitable Foundation in honor of Dr. C. Walton Lillehei, a pioneer in open heart surgery utilizing cross circulation.

The 2020 Lillehei Lecture was delivered at The Society of Thoracic Surgeons 56th Annual Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana, by Dr. Bartley P. Griffith from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore. Dr. Griffith is a surgical pioneer who may be best known for double-lung transplantations and implantation of the Jarvik artificial heart.

His talk, “Bumper Car Innovation of Heart Pumps and Mechanical Lungs” addressed the remarkable achievements that have been made in heart pumps and oxygenators and explores the possibilities for the future.
