The Thoracic Surgery Foundation (TSF) has opened its 2026 award cycle. As the charitable heart of The Society of Thoracic Surgeons, TSF offers a diverse portfolio of awards that empower surgeons at every stage of their careers.

Through its award programs, TSF supports excellence in four key areas: research, education, innovation, and humanitarian outreach. Research awards fund clinical and data-driven studies that advance the field, while education awards enable surgeons to acquire specialized skills through shorter-term fellowships. Innovation awards foster breakthroughs in surgical techniques and technologies, and humanitarian outreach awards support global outreach trips to treat underserved populations. Learn more about TSF awards and eligibility by visiting the TSF website. Applications close Sept. 15.

Doubling Impact Through Giving

Complementing these awards is the 2025 Surgeon Match Challenge, a transformative fundraising initiative launched by TSF in partnership with STS. Now in its ninth year, the challenge doubles the impact of every surgeon’s donation—for 2025, STS has pledged to match all contributions up to $300,000. These funds directly support TSF’s mission to advance heart and lung health for all. The campaign not only fuels innovation but also fosters a culture of giving and mentorship within the surgical community. Surgeons are encouraged to donate, spread awareness, and lead by example—reinforcing their commitment to the future of cardiothoracic surgical care.

Together, the TSF awards and the Surgeon Match Challenge exemplify a shared vision: to elevate surgical excellence, expand access to care, and inspire the next generation of leaders in cardiothoracic surgery. These initiatives are central to the Foundation’s mission to advance heart and lung health for all.
