Accreditation Information
The Society of Thoracic Surgeons is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
STS designates these activities for varying amounts of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in each activity.

Credit Transfer to the ABS and ABTS
When you complete an evaluation and claim CME credit for an STS activity, you agree to The Society of Thoracic Surgeons reporting your credit completion information to the ACCME Program and Activity Reporting System (PARS).
Transfer of data meets the credit reporting requirements of the American Board of Surgery (ABS) and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery (ABTS).
All claimed credits will be transferred to ABS and ABTS within 30 days of claiming credit.

CME for Attending the STS 2026 Annual Meeting
Complete the STS 2026 Overall Evaluation in the STS Learning Center by April 30, 2026, to claim credit for sessions attended in-person at the 2026 STS Annual Meeting in New Orleans.
- Choose one session per time slot.
- You can claim up to the maximum credit allowed. If you exceed this limit, you will not be able to proceed with claiming your CME certificate.
- Complete this activity in one sitting—closing the window will require you to start over. Avoid using the back button, as it may affect the credit calculation.
CME for Attending STS Conferences
You will be sent instructions on where to claim credit for attending STS conferences (virtual or in-person). Once you submit the overall evaluation for the conference, you will be directed to claim your credit:
- Confirm the type of credit*: You may select multiple types, when eligible.
- Confirm the credit amount. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
WARNING: You can only claim credit for an STS CME activity once.
*About the credit types
- AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™: Select this to claim a CME certificate.
- Participation: Select this to claim a participation certificate (hours). Applicable for non-physicians.
- ABS Accredited CME: Select this to report earned credit to the American Board of Surgery.
- ABTS Accredited CME: Select this to report earned credit to the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
If your ABS or ABTS Board ID is not listed correctly on your STS Learning Center profile, your credits will not be automatically transferred to the boards.
Claiming CME for STS OnDemand
STS OnDemand subscribers are eligible to claim up to 100 credits once per calendar year, based on watch time.
Eligibility
- Credit claiming is available to those who have purchased an STS OnDemand All Access Subscription.
- Learners accessing the Member Starter Series are not eligible to claim credit.
- Annual Meeting attendees can claim credit during the trial period before April 1.
- Annual Meeting attendees must upgrade to the All Access subscription to claim credit after April 1.
- You may claim up to 100 credits once per calendar year (1 hour watched = 1 CME).
- Watch time is provided for reference only and resets annually.
- Your watch history will be retained across subscription years.
- Before claiming credit, document your total watch time.
- Each annual credit claim will be displayed as an individual certificate in the STS Learning Center.
- Physicians must claim both CME and MOC to report earned credit to ABS and ABTS.
