Access & Publications

The Access & Publications (A&P) Research Program is a well-established STS research program based on patient data records in the STS National Database. The program facilitates Database participant-led research from the Adult Cardiac Surgery Database (ACSD), Congenital Heart Surgery Database (CHSD), General Thoracic Surgery (GTSD), and Intermacs Database that is funded by the Society, with analyses performed at a designated analytics center.

A&P Research Proposals

STS funding is available through the A&P Research Program for a number of novel, well-conceived, and hypothesis-driven proposals. Extra consideration is given to projects that involve multiple investigators/institutions and can be completed within 9-12 months.
In order to increase your chances for funding approval, keep in mind:

  • The submitted research plan should be well thought-out and must include sufficient details that clearly outline all required analysis steps. Shell tables and figures are encouraged.
  • Data elements required for your research analysis must be included in the STS National Database. Several proposals have been rejected because they required data that were not part of the Database.
  • Prospective investigators are strongly encouraged to review the Current Projects web page, as well as the Published Research web page, in advance of submitting a full proposal.

Proposals are reviewed twice per year on a rolling cycle.
