The Society of Thoracic Surgeons offers its deepest condolences to the family and colleagues of Michael J. Davidson, MD, who died Tuesday in a shooting at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. An STS member since 2008, Dr. Davidson was the winner of the 2012 STS/ACS Health Policy Scholarship and served on the Society’s Workforce on Health Policy, Reform and Advocacy.

“The shooting was a tragedy that has shaken the medical community both at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the nation as a whole. Dr. Davidson was an outstanding clinical surgeon and teacher who will be missed by his patients and the entire cardiothoracic surgery community,” said STS President David A. Fullerton, MD. “Our hearts and prayers go out to Dr. Davidson’s family—his wife Terri and their three young children—as well as his colleagues in Boston and on the STS workforce for which he enthusiastically served.”

Dr. Davidson will be remembered at the STS Annual Meeting, January 24-28, in San Diego.
