Vivien T. Thomas Lecture

Henri R. Ford, MD, MHA

Dr. Ford is a Haitian-American pediatric surgeon who serves as dean of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in Florida. In 1997, Dr. Ford made his first trip back to Haiti since his family fled the government of Papa Doc Duvalier to settle in Brooklyn when he was 13 years old. 

Appalled by the impoverished conditions and scarce resources at Haitian medical centers, he made multiple return visits to volunteer his services, including performing emergency procedures for injured children at field facilities in the aftermath of the January 2010 earthquake. Dr. Ford’s lecture will lend his humanitarian perspectives, surgical insights, and observations across an inspiring career. 


Thomas B. Ferguson Lecture

Presenting the Thomas B. Ferguson Lecture is Dr. Edmonson, Novartis Professor of Leadership at Harvard Business School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Dr. Edmonson, author of The Fearless Organization: Creating Psychological Safety in the Workplace for Learning, Innovation, and Growth, is a scholar of leadership, teaming, and organizational learning. She will share insights from her groundbreaking work on psychological safety in the workplace and its relevance to cardiothoracic surgery.


C. Walton Lillehei Lecture

Cameron D. Wright, MD 
Saturday, January 29, 5:00 p.m. ET

Dr. Wright, Army Medical Corps, USAR, from Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in Boston, will present “Army War Surgery: A Surgeon’s Journey and Lessons Learned” as Saturday evening’s C. Walton Lillehei Lecture. Dr. Wright is Chair of Quality for Surgery at MGH, and he has served as a colonel in the Medical Corps of the US Army Reserve, caring for servicemembers and civilians during tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.
